Conversion Table Examples
These tables are a lot like ratios.
Look at the table that has foot in it.
The table shows you that for every 1 foot there are 12 inches.
We could say this as the ratio "1 foot to 12 inches" or write it 1/12, 1 to 12, or 1:12.
So if I wanted to figure out how many inches were in 3 feet what would I do?
Well I would start with what I know. And I know 1 foot has 12 inches.
But I don't need 1 foot, I need 3 feet.
So to get from 1 foot to 3 feet I multiply by 3.
And I know that if I do something to one side I must do it to both sides.
So I would then multiply 12 inches by 3. And I get 36 inches.
So I know 3 feet have 36 inches.
